    Recently, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices nationwide have stepped up Form I-9 audit initiatives in every state by serving Notices of Inspection (NOIs) to local several businesses. As part of the new ICE Worksite Enforcement (WSE) Strategy, this initiative will renew ICE’s focus on employers and bring national attention to the statutory and regulatory requirements all employers must adhere to when hiring.   In order to avoid civil fines, employee backpay, program debarment, and criminal sanctions, employers are advised to develop and implement detailed I-9 policies.

    Mr. Asaad provides legal representation and services exclusively in the area of immigration and related labor and employment law. In addition to advising corporate clients on all day-to-day immigration and compliance matters, including ensuring effective, streamlined corporate immigration programs, employment visa eligibility processing, I-9 compliance and expatriate issues, Peter serves as an Adjunct Law Professor at American University, Washington College of Law where he teaches an advanced course on Business Immigration Law. Moreover, as an expert in the field of HR-immigration, Peter is the author of the SHRM co-publication, “The HR Immigration Pocket Reference.”

    In this program, human resource professionals will learn the most effective I-9 compliance policies that will track DHS recommendations and regulations to steer clear of immigration violations.  Indeed, internal audits, training, policies and procedures conducted before ICE comes knocking on the door are essential to limit liability and assess compliance.
